Masada

The mountain fortress of Masada was the last stronghold of the Jewish resistance movement against Roman occupation

Thankfully, there is a cable car that escorts visitors up the mountain.  However, for the more adventurous, hiking up the Roman ramp or Snake Path serve as other means of entrance

Today, Masada serves as the rallying point for the modern Israeli state and a source of pride for many of its citizens

Some of the remains of the northern palace

Frescoes adorn the walls of many of the buildings

There is still visible evidence of the Roman siege that ended in the mass suicide of the rebels living at Masada
